I've almost neglected my blog again! Was settling back home from Hong Kong, which was meant as a 'strictly' business trip. However, we decided to make a side trip to HK Disneyland, to observe their merchandise...

Anyway, time to continue with uploading more of my old sketches! The last two figures drawn were my favourites, definitely because they looked exactly the way I wanted them to. Personally, I was quite satisfied with them, I mean, I couldn't stop looking at them! ^.^

Sketch No.12: Giselle (Enchanted) and Esmeralda (Hunchback of Notre Dame)

Yep, I decided to include Giselle, even though I seriously doubted myself in sketching a live being, I forgot there was a moment she appeared as a cartoon in the movie, oops silly me. :) I was really happy with her eyes, at an initial stage, before adding in the iris and everything, she seriously looked like some demon...so I was really glad with the eventual outcome. On an added note, Esmeralda's hair was really hard for me, looks like I needed more practice. :)

I wanted to conclude this whole series of individual sketches with one of the guides I used for what I felt was the most difficult part to draw, a montage of their eyes. Hehe. Although i didn't follow it that closely, it did help for positioning of the irises.

I would have almost considered it heaven for me to find this image. It was either due to the fact that the original image I copied off was too small and pixelated, or that the image itself had additional lines that wasn't suppose to be there. Anyway, I'm so glad it's finished! ^.^

Now I have moved onto another series of sketches, a montage of the main characters in Disney movies. I could have drawn other cartoons not necessarily from Disney, but it seems fairly obvious where the bulk of cartoons lie...Stay updated for future sketches! ^.^

The next few sketches, to be honest, were my personal favourites amongst the Disney sketches so far. So, I decided to take on and embark on the more difficult images, especially when on first glance they looked almost impossible for me to draw. :P

Sketch No.10: Tinkerbell and Wendy (Peter Pan)

Their eyes were more challenging. They were different from the rest, instead of having many layers within the eyes, they were supposed to be drawn with a big dot...it looked really weird, reminded me of a bulls-eye -.- So, I decided to improvise by just leaving a single curve in the eye, didn't turn out too bad, I guess.

The only thing that bothered me was that Wendy's right eye was a failure, it just looked like it was going to pop out...it was really bad.

Sketch No.11: Megara (Hercules) and Jane (Tarzan)

No words can describe how pleased I was with this piece. I especially liked Megara's curves (no relation to being a pervert), they turned out as accurate as the original, I hope. ^.^ Her hair was really fun to draw, I also even started to miss drawing flowy dresses, so I had a great time drawing her. Also, to be honest, I was satisfied with Jane's eyes, in fact, at that time, it was better than any other eyes I've sketched so far. Love this.

Since drawing Elizabeth Swann from 'Pirates of the Caribbeans' is out of the question for a novice like me, the most suitable replacement on paper would be Rapunzel. :)

On an added note, I hope to one day learn how to sketch portraits, maybe then would I add in Elizabeth Swann to my collection of sketches. ^.^

Sketch No.8: Rapunzel (Tangled) and Pocahantas

To be honest, Rapunzel was one of most cherished favourites, I mean the drawing, not the character. Obviously, I was anticipating having troubles with her hair. Although I did consider cheating by drawing her with short hair (as seen at the end of the movie), but that wouldn't really be her, would it? In addition, Pocahantas's eyes were most difficult ones I've encountered so far, partly because they didn't have the sparkle in them (the sparkles are responsible for making the eyes look reasonably alright).

Sketch No.9: Alice (in Wonderland) and Lilo (and Stitch)

Alice's face outline gave me hell. Maybe I wasn't concentrating, but her face was either too small or enlarged. Hence, the only pleasant part of the drawing was the mushroom :P clean, simple lines. On the other hand, I personally think Lilo was my most accurate imitation of the original image, obviously because she's a simple character to draw, as compared to the others. It was the first time I actually had to make a character look chubby, it was fun, honestly.

Even with another four princesses, I was still having difficulties drawing their eyes perfectly. However, I daresay they're better than the previous four, I hope.

Sketch No.6: Aurora (Sleeping Beauty) and Ariel (The Little Mermaid)

Ironically, I thought it would be easier to draw Aurora's dress since it didn't really have as much lace as the previous princesses drawn, but I was definitely mistaken...it proved to be the biggest headache so far. Also, I think it's just me, but I get the nagging feeling that Aurora's body is not proportional to the size of her face...too late to rub it all off :/

Sketch No.7: Mulan and Tiana (Princess and the Frog)

I was really looking forward to drawing Mulan. She was my favourite Disney girl, not being biased because she's Asian but it seems like she's the only one with hmm 'balls', and she went to war. That's why I was disappointed when she didn't turn out the way I wanted. She does look a little hunched, though I've been told her Asian eyes were obvious and made her look alright, I still couldn't pry my eyes off the body structure...it seems that after many, many lacy dresses, I seemed to have difficulty even drawing a simple and straight-forward outfit for her.

An added note, I didn't watch 'Princess and the Frog' at all, unless counting in the first 5 minutes that bored me to tears. Needless to say, even if I didn't like the cartoon, I still wanted to achieve my goal of finishing all 18 Disney girls, right to the end! ^.^

1st of Many Princesses to Come

I hesitated on continuing with the idea of including all the princesses in my sketches at first, definitely because their eyes were FREAKING HARD TO DRAW! To be honest, I had no problems drawing their bodies at all, but the face was really hard to capture! They had to look gorgeous and sweet, if a single part of their face was drawn wrongly, they would look absolutely weird.

So, I had first started out by drawing out the shape of their face, but didn't add in the eyes, nose and mouth (practically the whole face). I then continued with drawing out their dresses, which wasn't infuriating at all compared to finishing with their faces. If you could imagine, I had always four princesses completely sketched, with the ripples in their dress, the outline of their body and of course, the arms and legs, but their had no face.
Sketch No.4: Snow White (and the Seven Dwarfs) and Jasmine (Aladdin)

If you notice, Jasmine has a moustache -.- Obviously I was having a dispute with my eraser and it left dark marks which couldn't be removed. As expected, the dark marks appeared on her face, as logic would tell you, in an effort to make her as pretty as possible, I kept changing components on her face and it ended up worse than I thought...

Sketch No.5: Cinderella and Belle (Beauty and the Beast)

I just wanted to say, Belle's face was the most FAILED drawing ever. Not only because of the obvious dark marks but her eyes were really slanted. And...in order to prevent dark marks from covering her whole face, I decided to leave it with those eyes. Definitely not one of my favourites.

Magical World

Until the 3rd sketch was done, I was already out of ideas on what popular cartoon characters I should draw next. Popeye, robots, snoopy, spongebob, hell even captain planet? I didn't really want to draw something I wasn't excited on. After asking around, I finally realized how stupid I was to forget about DISNEY! There were tons of Disney characters to sketch! I probably won't be able to finish them all!

However, I did get a suggestion to first start out small, that is, sketch the Disney princesses. I must admit, I am absolutely NOT a big fan of Disney princesses. Mainly because the flowy dresses and ridiculously thin waists somehow amuses me, but it doesn't mean I'm not excited about drawing them.

Upon searching the Net for images I could use to start sketching, I chanced upon this image which showed every single possible girl created by Disney. I thought to myself, this would be my template on what characters I would be drawing.

The artwork was really pretty and original. I definitely wanted to accomplish a sketch of every single girl on that image (except elizabeth swan, of course). So, if you would notice in the future, almost all posts from now on, would mainly consist of drawings from many beloved Disney movies. ^.^

Betty Boop

Commonly known as one of the most popular 'cartoon sex symbols', Betty Boop was completely different from other female cartoons in it's time. She was the first and only female character drawn to resemble a fully defined woman's form, hence one of the reasons she rose to popularity as a sex symbol.

At first I thought it would be much simpler drawing her as compared to Scooby in previous sketches. Phew, I was wrong. The curves of her body were quite hard to capture, but obviously as it was her trademark, I had to make sure she didn't look ... well, fat.

Sketch No.3: Betty Boop with Bimbo

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Bimbo (the dog on the right-hand side) is actually Betty's boyfriend. In fact, Betty was actually a dog character, but over the years, she was eventually transformed into a woman. However, Bimbo, her boyfriend, still remained 'dog-like' in the later installments.

It's no secret for some that I've got a soft spot for the Great Dane. In fact, he was the immediate inspiration for my first sketch done after a VERY long time. Most of my sketches were copied from images I found online, mainly colouring pages. However, they are NOT TRACED! The point of copying off the original images, was to improve on my strokes. I must say I have never had any formal Art training, so please don't judge them harshly ^.^ I'm only doing this for hobby sake.

Sketch No.1: Scooby and gang

The problem I had the most here was with their hands, it was either too sharp or fat...However, after a while, I did manage to get the hang of it and I was completely satisfied with Fred's hands in the end.

I really thought the original picture was super cute ^.^ Love both of them! This was my personal favourite amongst the early few sketches.

Resurrection

This shows exactly how bored I am if I actually returned to this blog...

After re-reading all my previous posts, I realized 2 years had passed faster than I had anticipated since I can still vividly remember my experiences in majority of my previous posts. However, decided to delete them, cause I'm sure it's not an interesting topic to read about, school and all.

I'm gonna miss JC but truth is, I rather spend time on something I've been enjoying tremendously over the past few months ^.^ My DRAWINGS! Haha this would probably be my archive of sketches I've done during my long break, that is in case I've misplaced them all!

That'll be probably a lot better than reading bits of my life ^.^

It's been a really stressful day today, although I have no right to say I did much. My chances of flying off to UK in 1 hours time had almost been washed away. Besides being sent home twice by the school, I'm still pretty much in the holiday mood which I desperately need to correct. The constant high temperatures recorded in school didn't do much to help either, my average temperature probably ranged from 37.4 to 37.9 degrees (maybe they should change my trigger point to 38 degrees). However, the only thing in my mind then and there was the trip to UK to celebrate and attend my brother's graduation for spending 5 years in UK studying medicine in Kings College, now we can all call him Dr. Zhang when he reaches home! :D

Speaking of the trip, I really need this trip outta Singapore, it's been about more than 5 years since I even stepped out of the country. We're finally about to head off for UK in about half an hours time and I'm pretty much packed with loads of things to occupy me during the 14 hour flight to UK. Ohhhhhh super excited now!! Really glad the school didn't stop me completely from flying off or I'll be cursing and swearing although I should understand that I'm causing loads of problems for the school as well. Just hoping I can make full use of this trip to relax and wind down for a bit before hell reigns all over again when I get back.

Additionally, I am super hyped up about the new equipment my dad bought back today just for my brother's graduation. A new Nikon SLR and Canon Camcorder! OMG! I feel like a kid again! The last time I touched any camcorder was when I was only in Primary School fiddling with the video cam like some play thing during my CCA. Plus I was told I could keep both for my own use when we get back home from UK! YAY! Snapping pics and recording shots would be a whole lot easier now for my CCA since I don't need to occupy the school's cameras! OMG I still can't believe we now have an SLR and CAMCORDER!! Still photos and moving images! OMG! :D

Yay!! Mid-Years are over!! Rejoice!! Hehehehehehehehehehe! Even with only a 3 hour sleep cramming for bio..the lack of sleep was worth it! I get to enjoy myself for the rest of the day without worrying too much. Now I get to continue playing Tap Tap! So many new songs to trash!

I just had to post this one day. I know this has been circulating round like the virus in my class and it appeared in the papers but I really felt this was inspirational to me. This actually made me tear up too which is kinda pathetic on my part but it really shows how much we judge people on their exterior instead of their capabilities. And I didn't know how cynical people really were, if I was in the audience, I bet I would have also scoffed at her for having a ridiculous dream which doesn't come easy. I admire her courage to show people not only in Britain but people everywhere that excellence comes from deep within and never ever 'judge a book by it's cover'. Susan Boyle is indeed I feel an inspirational figure to many who feel inferior. She embodies how hopes and dreams can be found in the most unlikely places and people.

So Many Shows, So Little Time

I don't want school to start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Still have loads of shows I wanna get down to finishing which is now impossible why is it when school is starting then I mange to actually fins something I don't mind watching...Anyone going through the same problem? At least Supernatural is not finished yet so I can afford to wait for the episodes to air. Then theres C.S.I Las Vegas which I actually bothered to watch since it was the only series that didn't have them acting 'cool' unlike in NY and miami which is super overacting!!! O mannn my anime is not done either...That reminds me the supernatural gag reel is a must to watch!! hahahahaha ahhh Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki is dam funny!!! They sure are different from the show.
